Dear CPSG Member and Friends,

I am thrilled to invite you to the 2018 CPSG Annual Meeting, generously hosted in Bangkok, Thailand by the Zoological Park Organization. The meeting will take place at the Avani Bangkok Riverside Hotel, beginning with an icebreaker on Thursday evening, 18 October, and closing with a gala dinner on Sunday, 21 October.

In between, we will be discussing and making progress on issues of great importance to the conservation community. Our theme for this year’s Annual Meeting is Towards Zero Extinction in Southeast Asia, and we’re very pleased to have as our keynote speaker Erik Meijaard, Director of Borneo Futures, who will present a talk titled ‘Opportunities for Southeast Asian Conservation in the Anthropocene’.

In keeping with our theme, presentations and working groups will include:

•    The Asian Species Action Partnership (ASAP!)

•    EAZA’s Asian Songbird Crisis Campaign – Silent Forest

•    CPSG’s new Regional Resource Center – CPSG Southeast Asia

•    Key threats to Southeast Asian species including global trade and wildlife health

The CPSG Annual Meeting is a working meeting with an informal and interactive atmosphere. If there is an issue you would like to discuss with fellow conservationists from across the world, we invite you to send your working group topic ideas to office@cpsg.org.

We hope you can join us!

Onnie

Yes, we will be busy but happy to see you all in Bangkok and Chiangmai. Our staff is excited to meet you and learn from you.

I am hoping to see many specialists in conservation planning field, along with many of the taxonomic experts, several SSC Chairs and members, working together and learning from each other, with the shared passion and vision. The 2018 CPSG Annual Conference theme ‘Towards Zero Extinction in Southeast Asia’ poses both huge challenges as well as great opportunities for us all to join hands in sharing lessons learned and pave the way for future collaboration from the whole world to work for endangered species and their habitats. We hope you can meet new fiends and colleagues from Southeast Asian countries who share similar vision and mission in saving species from extinction.

I am sure you will enjoy the Thai hospitality and Bangkok itself with rich cultural diversity and the variety of cuisine and tropical fruits. We also hope you spend extra time to explore natural diversity and some fantastic wildlife experiences before or after the conference. We are happy to assist you with any information and logistic recommendation you may need.
